You Are Needed
You want to give up? You want to leave this awful, fractured place and go live in Canada / Sweden / Denmark / New Zealand?
I get it, I really do.
But there are millions of people without the privilege or resources to leave abusive relationships / feed their children / see a doctor / walk down the street without getting shot by a cop, much less fuck off to friendlier climes.
Besides, fascism marches alongside climate collapse, and it's a crap shoot to see which will kill us first. Neither stop at our borders.
The danger is global.
If I sound angry it's because I am.
Angry at myself, at you, at a system that reinforces inequity and rewards sociopathy. Angry at a populace who'll believe every tabloid lie but cry foul at verified science, then shrug and vote again for white supremacy and graft.
If I sound sad it's because I am.
Sad that we so easily abdicate our responsibility as stewards of each other, not only because selfishness is baked into human DNA, but because capitalism kills community and creates desperation. Because it stratifies us.
Because it requires scapegoats, and we make them out of one another.
One thing I am not is fatalistic. Every generation has thought theirs the last. And while we can chart and track the coming apocalypse, we are not and will never be helpless to shift it.
That shift might not come in the ballot booth. It might come in the streets.
But it'll come. And you cannot give up.
Because you are needed, now more than at any point in your life.
